Pride in Aging RI welcomes individuals with a range of interests and offers opportunities to contribute at different levels of involvement and in various settings.  Efforts are aimed at expanding the visibility and inclusion of LGBTQ+ older adults, leading Pride in Aging RI to continually strive to achieve a membership that reflects the diversity of Rhode Island’s LGBTQ+ community.

What We Do.

Pride in Aging RI is dedicated to promoting, empowering, and contributing to the high quality of life for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender elder community through service, education, and advocacy.

Services, Support, and Social Engagement

Pride in Aging RI:

  • Offers social programming to strengthen the community and combat social isolation

  • Plans events to improve understanding across generations, such as SAGE Table Intergenerational Dinners and activities with Youth Pride

  • Seeks opportunities to co-sponsor activities with other organizations to bring people together in ways that celebrate diversity

  • Participates in Pride Celebrations, LGBTQ+ History Month programs, and events held by RI Pride, Newport Out, and other community allies

Education and Training

Pride in Aging RI:

  • Hosts presentations for the community featuring senior services and other professionals to improve access to essential community resources

  • Co-sponsors and attends conferences and resource fairs aligned with our mission

  • Partners with LGBTQ+ and senior care providers to facilitate equitable access to and eliminate gaps in culturally competent health care and social services

  • Conducts education and training initiatives to introduce healthcare, social service, and senior service providers to the knowledge and skills needed to offer LGBTQ+ culturally competent services. 

  • Conducts surveys, focus groups, and research projects to understand, assess, and improve the quality of services available to LGBTQ+ older adults

Advocacy and Public Policy

Pride in Aging RI:

  • Supports social policies, programs, and services that offer LGBTQ+ older adults access to safe and welcoming settings of care

  • Advocates for the recognition of LGBTQ+ needs and concerns on government councils and advisory boards

  • Collaborates with diverse community partners to achieve equitable access to essential resources and a safe, inclusive, and welcoming culture for LGBTQ+ seniors and all older adults

  • Takes public positions in support of LGBTQ+ and senior rights and on advocacy issues related to all seniors and the LGBTQ+ community
